Earth's Odyssey - - - purveyors of museum quality petrified wood - - - Oregon Oregon wood is often very "woody" in appearance. Woods of many species are found in Oregon and Oak is quite common. In fact, some of the most desirable Oaks in the world come from Oregon; the Deschutes Formation, Swartz Canyon and Stinking Water immediately come to mind. Still, there is a great variety of wood to be found in Oregon. Sweet Home is a very prolific area and the variety is astounding. A well known paleobotinist once identified 60 different species in one acre of land! Grassy Mountain and Hampton Buttes produce colorful woods and the Greenhorn Mountains near Sumpter is home to the wonderful precursor of trees, the outstanding Tempskya, a tree fern! Have a look at these outstanding specimens from Oregon:
