Earth's Odyssey - - - purveyors of museum quality petrified wood - - - Candlewood We had the opportunity to import some of the most interesting, fascinating material we have ever seen. These marvelous specimens come to us from South East Asia. Understandably, the miner from whom we made this incredible purchase would not pinpoint the exact coordinates of his dig as that would in effect open the site to the entire world. He was willing however to divulge that the source of these gems is a parcel 1000 kilometers square. He says it is comprised of dacitic lithic tuff approximately 3 million years old and that the entire area is dominated by siliceous volcanics. We are the exclusive outlet for this miner and are proud to display his material! It appears as though trees were encased in volcanic ash as a result of a seismic event. Perhaps the outer bands of the trees were burned away, or perhaps the ash surrounding the trees decayed, but either way a void appeared between the tree and the ash casing. This void was then lined with some of the most outstanding agate that we have ever seen! In some of these photographs the specimens appear to glisten as if wet for the pictures. Rest assured that these specimens were photographed completely dry and the sheen you view is from the spectacular silkiness of the agate! When studying these beautiful examples the term botryoidal comes quickly to mind! Originating in Greek, botryoidal means "bunch of grapes" and is quite applicable in this case! Many people have asked whether this product is from Blue Forest, only to learn that this is a fairly recent discovery! Blue Forest is, without question, awesome material. The blue agate prominent in Blue Forest was at one time a standard by which to measure deep blue agate integration in wood. Candlewood, however, raises the bar exponentially!
