Earth's Odyssey - - - purveyors of museum quality petrified wood - - - Arizona Arizona produces some of the most colorful woods. Minerals in the soil at the time of petrification caused the silica which replaced the organic materials to take on many different, beautiful colors. Red, yellow, blue, white and black are all very common and often give a brilliant display. The majority of the woods gathered in Arizona are Araucaria, or Norfolk Island Pine, although other species are not unheard of. Arizona is also known for production of the more rare Woodworthia and Schilderia. Here are some woods from Arizona:
